Electric “Company” October 15, 2009

Well, many of you have told us that you enjoy some of the quick blogs which just give a quick glimpse into our days in Guatemala. This is one of those hopefully “quick ones”.
At the core of DeepStream and all that we hope to be to those around us is “relationships”. One family, the Lopez’, live in Buena Vista and were one of the 12×12 home projects a few months ago. They have 4 younger kids who greet us every time we come to the village of Buena Vista for any reason at all. As we go to their home to visit it was brought to our attention that this family had no electricity in their home, so basically by 7:00, its lights out, or candlelight at best. It has been on our heart to help them in this area. In Guatemala, the get the electricity wired and hooked up and around $50 or so, and we told them we would handle it.
Now on to the rest of the story…. When I went out this past week to give the father some money to get the job done, he told me that the total cost was closer to 1000Q which is somewhere in the ballpark of $120. Even that figure is nothing compared to what it would cost to get electric hooked up and installed in the states, but something in me just felt like I wanted to express to them that our family would be able to do “part” of it, but not the entire amount… so, we as I was talking to my friend Brock, who was handling the translating, etc… I had told Brock that our family could do 600Q but that I would think it would be cool if the family could do their part. (keep in mind, this was a totally private conversation) As we entered the Lopez’ home, we expressed our desire to help with part, but that we weren’t able to do it all, and with a thankful heart and humble spirit the father asked, “Do you think you could do 600Q?” The rest was history as I felt very at peace with the truth that the same amount had been put on my heart and on this mans.
God is good, He wants us to experience Him in all ways, even small ones. We just need to listen!
