Hi everyone, it’s Eli. Me, my mom and my Dad and Bryn went to Guatemala where we built a chicken coop. I started a chicken club a while ago so we could give the people the chickens. We got the wood and then we got the wire and built the chicken coop.
Me, Dad, and Mr. Steve bought the wood for $100 and the parts too. Mr. Steve is a friend of our family who went with us on the trip. We bought the wood at Francisco’s workshop, which smelled funny but there was a lot of cool stuff there, like machetes, hand saws and wheels. Francisco is one of the local carpenters in Magdalena.
The money that we brought on our trip from the chicken club gave us enough money to buy the wood, wire, nails, and some little lock things for the coop doors. I am telling you this because people want to know about the club. After we finished building the coop we walked it to this man named Bruno’s house. My Dad, Mr. Steve, and Mr. Brock carried it 2 at a time. I think it was heavy and you could get splinters. There was a lot of turns and the roads were steep sometimes.
When we gave it to the family they were thankful. He said next time I saw him and the chickens were big he would let me eat one with him. Their house had a lot of flies and a dirt floor and holes in the roof. 9 people lived in the home. I was glad we made it for him because it made him and his wife very happy. All his kids were standing and watching their dad talk to us.
I like to help people. I feel happy when we give people what they need. With another $75 we bought them 25 chicks, feed, mulch and vitamins for the chicks. We hope that we can help more people soon. If you can please donate to help our club it would help a lot. www.deepstreampa.com/current-projects/eli-s-chicken-club/
